Nigerian music star Dapo Oyebanjo popularly known as D’banj who was recently appointed the United Nations Ambassador for peace now risks losing his position at the UN after a Nigerian woman accused him of rape.

This is after over 15,000 people signed an online petition calling on the UN to distance itself from D’banj over the rape claim.

The lady, Seyitan Babatayo said the incident happened at a white-party event held at Glee Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos on December 30, 2018.

According to the petition, the UN should end its relationship with the oliver twist singer in support of victims of gender-based violence.

“Women in Nigeria are increasingly at risk of sexual violence and the United Nations and United Nations Women Africa as an entity committed to the empowerment of women should not be seen to associate themselves with alleged rapists, abusers, and kidnappers. We ask the United Nations and United Nations Women Africa to support and lend their influence in helping Seyitan get justice for the abuse she endured in 2018 and the harassment and bullying in the past weeks.” Reads the petition

According to a series of tweets made by Seyitan’s friend Benjamin Ese – a model scout, D’banj raped her after gaining access to her room while she slept at the hotel.

“So I slept off within 5/6am and pls note (I’m a naked sleeper) and woke up and found D’banj in my room already and I asked him what he was doing in my room he didn’t say a word…” read one of the 13 tweets in part.

The singer has come out to rubbish the allegations saying that it has greatly affected his marriage.

He added that his legal team together with the Nigerian police department is already handling the matter.

“I did not want to dignify the slurs with a response but it appears my silence has empowered my accusers to think I have been scared into the shadows so I would like to state that this accusation is false and ludicrous and have been handed over to my legal team, while the Nigerian Police is Investigating the criminal aspect of it,” he added.

Niger’s consul to Kenya and owner of the Kiza Lounge Oumarou Moumouni Ali,, is free to return to Nairobi, nearly a year after he was deported over allegations of international crime links.

High Court Judge James Makau on Monday ruled that Mr Ali is a diplomat and is therefore immune to arrest and deportation in the manner done last year.

Justice Makau also ordered the Interior ministry to consider Mr Ali’s application for a work permit extension within 30 days from the date of receiving the request, and issue a notification on the decision in writing.

Mr Ali’s suit challenging his deportation has also revealed that Kenya had tried to expel the Niger national in December 2019.

Court filings reveal that a deportation order was first issued against Mr Ali in December, 2018 but was not effected for nine months.

The 2018 deportation order was issued just one day after Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued Mr Ali with recognition of his status as Niger’s government representative to Kenya. A second deportation order was issued on August 14, 2019.

Immigration officials spent the next eight days trying to trace Mr Ali, who was eventually found hiding in Nyahururu.

Intelligence reports shared with the Immigration Department indicated that Mr Ali is part of an international drug ring that launders part of its ill-gotten wealth in Kenya using establishments like Kiza Lounge.

The businessman was bundled into a Niamey-bound plane on August 22, 2019.

Reggae legend Bunny Wailer has offered a reward of Jamaican dollar one million for anyone who has information that can lead to the whereabouts of his wife Jean ‘Sister Jean’ Watt.

Watt, 70, who is dreadlocked and about five feet, three inches tall, went missing from her home in Washington Gardens one month ago, and despite several ‘sightings’ in areas of St Catherine and Portland, she has still not been found.

“We increased the reward from $250,000 to $1 million, and we have also hired a private investigator,” Bunny Wailer’s son, Abijah told reporters

Maxine Stowe, Bunny Wailer’s manager, explained that the $250,000 reward had brought in several tips but no success.

In the weeks following Watt’s disappearance, there were reports that she had been seen in St Catherine and Portland, specifically Port Antonio and Buff Bay.

“We are following up every sighting. Flyers have been printed, and checking in with the police stations and the various hospitals is a daily routine. At least three cars are driving around every day,” Stowe outlined.

A surveillance tape that shows Watt leaving home on Saturday, May 23, has revealed that she was wearing a brown dress with a black stocking cap on her head.

“Sister Jean was walking very briskly, almost like a little run at times, and she also had her usual big bag with her,” Stowe said.

She added that the family is keeping a watchful eye on Bunny Wailer, whose health is also of paramount concern following a mild stroke two years ago.

“Jah B (Wailer’s nickname) continues to be medically sequestered, so although he is very worried, the medication he is receiving ensures that the added stress is not taking a toll on his body. Of course, the fact that Sister Jean has dementia is our greatest worry because she no longer has that ability to recall all she needs to in order to find her own way back home,” Stowe said.

I realised that it’s only in moments of crisis do we prepare! I need god in all facets of my life! I need to prepare myself for trials in life because they will come. Rapper Jackson Makini popularly known as Prezzo has weighed in on the new genre of music dubbed gengetone.

While on an interview on Jalang’o’s online show Bonga na Jalas, Prezzo termed gengetone a ‘passing cloud’

“Gengetone is a passing cloud… Let’s be realistic for example, ‘Mafand’ ‘Kare’ or Nameless, you know, pick any of those old songs, you know you can listen to those songs today and feel like it was just yesterday it was released… I’m happy for these young ones who are coming up you know, and whatever they are putting into the industry is a plus, but then ten years from now, I don’t think people would be listening to gengetone,” he said

Prezzo who has a new song out featuring P-Unit’s Gabu and Frasha expressed concern at the content of gengetone music.

His sentiments were echoed by Frasha who said that for gengetone to survive, then the artistes need to diversify what they sing about.

“The only problem I have with gengetone is the content of the songs. It is raw, unapatanga kuna watu wengine inawafanya wafeel uncomfortable, alafu it is hard to find a gengetone song that doesn’t sing about weed and sex” Frasha said.

His sentiments were echoed by Gabu who also called on the young talents to diversify their content.

“I give opportunity to young artistes to come and record, because ata sisi tulianza hapo. As Frasha said, lazima wajue how to code the content,”  Gabu said

Is Vanessa Mdee’s man Rotimi behind her decision to quit Music?

Tanzanian songbird Vanessa Mdee recently announced that she is quitting the music industry a move that caught many of her fans by surprise.

Speaking in her recent episode on Deep Dive with Vanessa Mdee, she  revealed that she made the decision after suffering from depression.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but my mission is to be a light. I know that I will probably disappoint a few people and that’s okay, I know that my fans don’t wanna hear this but guess what I am never gonna be too far away from you, trust me. The reason why I had to leave the industry is because I needed to choose my life, the music industry is demonic. People will tell you half-truths about what really goes on, and the truth is I just wanna be an advocate for honesty and beauty and being a sincere advocate for what facing your demons can do for you.

“Now my fans are probably asking themselves right now; Are you gonna never sing again? Are we gonna never see you perform? Let me reiterate, I love music, I love to create, I love to perform, I’m a vessel, this is what I was brought on earth to be, but maybe I was a vessel to be here in this moment to have gone through everything that I have gone through so that I can tell you most honestly the truth about things you will never hear somewhere else,” said Mdee.

Now days after making her announcement, she did a separate video recanting her words.

Mdee revealed that she will continue recording new music but maintain that she will try to do it differently

“Muziki ni sehemu ya maisha yangu for the rest of my life, nitatengeneza muziki for the rest of my life. Nita-perform for the rest of my life lakini sitaki kuwa sehemu ya music industry,” she said.

Fans are however convinced that her current relationship with Nigerian-American rapper Rotimi may have everything to do with her recent decision.

A fan reached out to blogger Edgar Obare  sharing snippets from an interview done Rotimi’s ex girlfriend Christina Rogers.

In the interview, Ms. Rogers revealed how Rotimi became domineering and violent in their relationship prompting her to walk out.

“Before the abuse became physical, there was several instances of emotional and verbal abuse. Were you ever afraid that things would get physical?

never in 100 years could guess that he would have become abusive. When it happened, I was in shock. I had to ask myself if it really happened. I had to ask his assistant if it really happened. I had to ask him if it really happened. I was in disbelief and I was terrified at the same time. Right before it happened I told him that he was going to ruin himself.” Miss Rogers said

Could it be possible that Rotimi may have affected the Tanzanian singer’s decision to quit music?

In his early years as a singjay, Vegas sang covers of Jamaican hits at local parties and shows, and acquired a reputation as a troublemaker for his lyrics. During a scuffle over stolen master tapes, Vegas was hit in the face with a crowbar and had his jaw wired shut for six weeks.

Vegas claims that, after hearing Beenie Man’s hit “Who Am I”, he immediately demanded that his still-healing jaw be unwired, changing his speech pattern but allowing him to practice toasting.

Mr. Vegas was born in Kingston Jamaica on 29th September 1974
