Lakeside music queen Maureen Otiu popularly known as Lady Maureen is breathing freedom after spending nine days at Bukungu prison in Mwanza, Tanzania.
Lady Maureen and her dancers had been locked up by Tanzanian officials for allegedly crossing into Tanzania without proper documentation.
Lady Maureen together with some of her Nyar Ng’ato traditional dancers flew back home on Saturday night after their bail was posted by Royal Media Services owner, SK Macharia.
The rest of her team was freed on Sunday and traveled back home after their release.
The songstress said she was contemplating quitting music after the awful ordeal. Shedding light on the matter, Lady Maureen said that their promoter had intentions of conning them after he failed to get proper documents for her and the band to cross over to Tanzania to perform.
She said that after agreeing on a payment of Ksh.400,000 for two shows, the promoter could not raise half the down payment offering Ksh 80,000 with a promise to pay the balance later.
The promoter however went missing leaving them stranded in a hotel room. The team was arrested shortly after by immigration officers.
They were arraigned in court and sentenced to six months each for being in the country without proper documentation with bail set at Ksh 35,000 each amounting to Ksh 560,000.
After the news of her arrest spread, fans and well wisher organized a fundraiser at club budas, Kangundo road and raised ksh. 167,847 before media boss S.K Macharia stepped in to settle the rest.
