Have you at one point found yourself sitting in a matatu and heard this awesome rendition of Tessanne Chin’s Call fi mi cure and find yourself enjoying the beat and flowing with the smooth flow of the guitar strums but do not know who is behind the song.
This is one Le Band kenya’s most popular song dubbed number one. The boyband made up of four is one of kenya’s fastest rising boyband which was started in 2014 as back up singers but in 2015 they decided to do their own songs.
Le band is made up of four friends Ken a.k.a the base man, Fidel, Joel and Ebe who met up back in highschool and at church. They bring together Afro-pop, Afro-soul and Afro-poetry music adding flavour to the Kenyan music industry.
Wondering why the name? Le band was initially a whats-app group name where the group used to communicate their meetings and ideas so when they decided to team up and looked for a name which was proving difficult ending up with the whatsapp group name.
Fidel says that Kenyans need to change their perception of the Kenyan music industry always believing that Kenyans keep emulating the west. “ I blame the media, we grew up listening to western music getting much airplay on our media yet Kenyan music has always been given little airtime, where else could we get our inspiration from?” he says.
He says Kenyans know how to sing so this mentality of people saying some artists sing like wazungus just because they got great vocals should stop completely.
Joel says that when the band first started he had a difficult time with the dad who was against the idea of him singing but after some convincing and bringing home some of his samples, the dad was easy and is now very supportive of him.
The band teamed up with Suzziah and did a great hit maker called number one which has great vocals and and an easy feel.
Among their songs are Kantai, which they also produced a remix to featuring Khaligraph Jones.
Le band says that they hope that some day they will win the Grammys. They say that the trick to success is fast believing in your product and that you can make it work.
