“The record label promised to pay their rents, stipends and even get them a car and this was really appealing to them. I however had some issues with the clauses in their contract and while I was still looking through it, Peter, Miracle baby went behind my back and signed a deal with the company. I did not even know about it until a representative of the company approached me and told me it was a done deal.” She said

“As a mother, the only moment you will have peace of mind is when you are dead and gone . However, if spirits are alive, you will never have peace if any of your children is not settled or at peace,  it doesn’t matter if she is married, old or young, the pain is the same. I hereby ask and urge single mothers to hold onto the happiness their babies bring forth, you are totally alone in the journey of pregnancy and it’s a bonus or a privilege if you have a supportive partner, which in most cases is not a guarantee from time immemorial and most of the past experiences.” She said

Akothee also asked single mother to avoid going after their baby daddies adding that, that energy will only cause more harm.

“We don’t wish to be single parents or bring up children in broken relationships but some circumstances forced or might force us to do so for the better growth & future of the kids. However, the bottom line is, the energy you use in running after a partner who is not interested in the life of the children is much more than the one you would use to collect yourself . It’s hard i know, but this is a grown-up with all his senses, he will do what he knows best, either humiliate you more or cause more damage to your heart , it’s up to you to choose  ” Akothee added

Willis Raburu breaks silence over Gengetone Festival’s poor attendance

Media personality Willis Raburu has broken his silence after he was called out over the poor attendance at Gengetone Festival over the weekend.

The gig that went down at Machakos People’s Park on Saturday caused a stir online after the photos started doing rounds.

Raburu who was associated with the event said he was not the organizer of the event and had also just been paid to MC the event.

He further said the event had two segments and the photos doing rounds are just from the session where he was hyping up the few people who had already turned up.

“The gengetone festival was not my event, If you want to find out who were the organizers, check the posters online. The event had two segments; one where upcoming artists were given a chance to represent then eventually the other artistes would take over. The pictures that are doing rounds online are from the segment where I was hyping just the guys who were there at the time.” He said

Raburu also called for promoters to respect artists adding that the weekend event was flawed by lack of payment.

“After the hyping I went backstage to find out which artist will be performing next, I talked to the artists and most of them told me that they want to perform but they have not been paid. The rule is always half during negosiations and by the time I’m stepping on the stage, it’s been cleared.  I told them not to perform if they have not been paid, I was on stage or a while, I didn’t know the cracks of the matter, and in fact I was also to go ask for my pay. So I called the organizer and we sat down together with the artists. We talked and he said that they will pay by Monday because the money is on the ticketing platform. It got to the point that as we were talking to these artists I felt really sad because to tell artists to just perform and they will be paid another time, How many time have they been told that? I told them if they get on stage and perform without being paid, we will never break this cycle.” He said

Kenyan Gengetone artists have teamed up to call for respect from Kenyan event promoters.

This comes after the artists who were to headline the Gengetone Festival in Machakos had friction with the organizers over payment.

In a series of posts shared online, the artists are now saying they will not accept to grace any event without prior full payment.

This is because a number of promoters convince artists to perform before full payment only to end up disappointing them afterwards.

Gengetone group Sailors now say they will not perform in any gig that pays them less than 350K.

“Kenyan promoters you have to respect gengetone and new wave artists!!!No money no show! Kwanza bila 350,000 ata usiote kutuita show na hio ni post covid offer. Gengetone fest was a major disappointment but any tupatane mbele….#dabongestyletotheworld” they wrote on social media

Boondocks member Exray also revealed that he refused to perform at the Saturday gig because he could not understand how the organizers paid for everything but refused to pay artists.

“ABOUT YESTERDAY 😤😤😤Atuwezi kuwa tuki hype events.. ma fans wanakuwa disappointed. . How the hell can you pay your sound, venue and stage and you can’t afford to pay the artist!!!.. .. if you can’t manage your work then don’t do it….🤦🤦. silazima u hype jinaa na event… Don’t!!!… Gengetone artist are paying bills tooo … muache kutubeba ivoo😤😤…. your are stealing from our fans and you’re killing the artist too😠#Taniuwamovement” Exray Said

Media personality Willis Raburu had also explained that he urged artists not to perform at the Saturday gig if they had not been paid.
