Gengetone artistes have continually been bashed for using vulgar language in their music.

Earlier this year, there was a debate on social media surrounding the new genre of music with many people arguing that gengetone will die a fast death.

Juacali, on his part has always supported the youngsters behind Gengetone arguing that they have brought originality to Kenyan music.

Speaking at a recent interview3, Juacali said he is proud that the youth are embracing their own path.

Juacali has always expressed that he cannot bash gengetone artistes because their content has been cut from Genge music something he was the pioneer of.

“Lazima watu waunderstand kitu moja, mimi kama msanii especially nlianzisha hii gegnge music, imagine kama mimi ningeturn around nianze kukashifu hawa vijana ingekuwa ni wrong sana. At a recent interview, Juacali told off critics bashing gengetone not to expect them to sing about problems in the society.

“Usiexpect msanii mdogo aanze kuimba kuhusu NHIF ama sukari imepanda. Bado wako home. Hii kitu lazima imove natural, polepole tu. The more wataendelea kugrow the more content itachange. Kina sailors wameanza so with time itachange” he said

For the past few days there was word doing rounds that Tanzanian singer Benpol and his Kenyan fiancé Anerlisa Muigai have parted ways.

Speaking at a recent interview, Ben Pol addressed the alleged breakup with Anerlisa Muigai saying that the allegations are false.

Speaking in an interview, the singer said that the allegations started after he deactivated his Instagram account.

Ben Pol maintains that he had taken time off social media to be with his family.

The singer deactivated his account leaving many believing that his girlfriend had unfollowed him on social media and that there were issues in their relationship.

American rapper Nicki Minaj’s elder brother Jelani Maraj has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for child rape.

Jelani  has been in and out of court for the last four years after being arrested in December 2015 on child rape charges.

He was accused of sexually assaulting his 11-year-old stepdaughter at the time.

During the trial in 2017 that took place in New York the girl’s then 10-year-old brother revealed how he had seen the rape occur in his sister’s bedroom.

While on the stand, the boy told the Nassau County Supreme Court that he had been threatened by Maraj to keep his mouth shut about the horrific event. “Jelani said I wouldn’t see my mother again if I told on him. His face was kind of mad,” he said

The victim also revealed how her stepfather had begun to brutally attack her four months into the marriage to her mother and warned her to keep quiet. Prosecutors had alleged that the assault would occur four times a week, with DNA belonging to the 40-year-old found on the little girl’s pajama pants and medical examinations showing evidence of penetration.

Jelani has now been convicted of predatory sexual assault against a child and endangering the welfare of a child.

After facing a minimum sentence of 15 years to life imprisonment, he will also spend at least 25 years behind bars and will likely be in prison until he is in his 60s.

Halisi the Band is a Kenyan afro pop boy band that has pelted tunes that are able to captivate any listening ear.

With their latest release ‘Tuma Pesa’ dominating the airwaves, Halisi the Band shared the inspiration behind the song.

Speaking to Ghetto Radio Chit Chat, the band made up of Galvin, Lucky and Elly revealed that they once fell victim to conniving promoters.

“We once did a show and the promoter disappeared with our money. It took a lot of back and forth and ignored calls when we tried to follow up the matter till eventually we decided to translate the matter into a song.” They said

Inspired to do original and authentic Kenyan sounds, the Band settled on the name Halisi which translates to authentic as a way to promote the smooth and entertaining songs this side of the East.

Despite being in the game for six years, the band maintains that they are not signed under any record label as a way to protect their brand.

“Record labels in the country have been exploiting artistes using especially upcoming artistes as a cash cow. so..as a way to protect ourselves and earn from our craft, we decided to manage ourselves.” Said Galvin

The band however maintains that they may give it a thought to sign with a record label but for now they are happy managing themselves.

The group rocked airwaves for the better part of 2019 with their hit song ‘Avocado’ and has vowed that 2020 will be no different.

Tanzanian singer Harmonize has rubbed shoulders with veteran Tanzanian singer Chidi Benz after using his photos to promote an upcoming event.

The singer took to social media to share posters announcing the list of celebrities scheduled to perform at his ongoing tour scheduled to go down at Mwembe in Yanga, Dar es Salaam.

Chidi Benz who was part of the list was however not pleased that Harmonize used his name yet he is not part of the artistes scheduled for that event.

The veteran singer revealed he had not been contacted for the gig and was not even aware of how the payment works.

Gospel singer Peter Blessing was arraigned in court on Tuesday 28th January following his arrest a week a go.

The singer had been accused of obtaining cash 2,039,000 from gospel singer Kevin Kioko popularly known as Bahati between 4th July 2019 and 5th January 2020..

“Peter Munyaru you are charged with obtaining money by false pretense, between the 4^th of July 2019 to the 5^th day of January 2020 at EMB Records in Nairobi. Obtaining Sh2, 039, 000 from Kevin Kioko by falsely pretending that you were able to produce music videos, with the said EMB records.” Read his charge sheet

Appearing before chief magistrate Martha Mutuku, Blessing denied the charges and was freed on a Sh500K Bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh200K.

Blessing was released after his bail was posted by a good samaritan.

A has surfaced online showing how Jamaican dancer  Roxanne ‘Roxy’ Evans popularly known as Bumpa broke her neck and died.

The dancer lost her life on January 24th after her dance partner jumped on her back causing her to snap her kneck.

Bumpa balancing upside down while another female dancer, identified by her alias Momo, adjusts Bumpa’s legs in preparation for the stunt that should have seen Momo jump through Bumpa’s opened legs.

Momo however did not manage the jump and her entire weight ends up on Bumpa.

The video ends with Bumpa lying flat on her face while Momo tries frantically to revive her.

It is alleged that a dance challenge was thrown out at the event with the winning prize being $3500 and the 2 colleagues came up with a freestyle dance to wow the crowd

Roxanne’s mother Olive Clennon revealed the dancer was rushed to the hospital following the incident.

The mother revealed that her daughter broke her neck in three places.

According to Miss Clennon, she didn’t think that her daughter would die because the doctor told them she would be okay after surgery.

“We rush to the hospital same time, but when we reach, she caa talk to nobody, all she could do is shake har head and the doctor dem tell mi seh har neck bruck inna three place. Honestly, mi neva know seh she woulda dead because the doctor dem did a seh she need some piece a iron inna har neck. Dem tell mi fi go pay some money and by the time mi pay the money, dem a rush har to Falmouth Hospital, so we follow dem to the hospital. Pop group Sauti Sol has signed an exclusive recording agreement with Universal Music Africa (UMA), a division of Universal Music Group (UMG).

The agreement will give the band access to UMG’s global network around the world and will allow greater opportunities for the band to reach new audiences globally.

Speaking after the news broke on Thursday, Sauti Sol band member Bien Aime Baraza said he has waited for this moment for long.

“I love new beginnings. I have waited for this day for all my life. I can’t wait to share love, music and be back on the road. The year off has really been a steep learning curve. An upcoming crew has come out to point fingers at gengetone group Ethic for stealing their song.

According to Sotic Gang, a two man band, Ethic lifted the idea for their song ‘Soko’ from them.

According to Sotic, Ethic crew uploaded their song ‘Soko’ after their song (Sotic) Isti was uploaded on Youtube.

Ethic’s manager Sam has however rubbished the claims that the group stole Sotic’s ‘iseti’

Sotic posted their song on January 17, while Ethic’s song was uploaded on YouTube on Jan 23.

The group allegedly tried to reach out to Swat over the issue but the issue was not resolved.

Sotic claims Swat was rude to them telling them how they’ve not made it.

Bahati had taken Blessing to court for acquiring Ksh. 2 million under false pretense. Blessing was released on a Ksh.200 thousand bail.

Khaligraph is now calling on the two artistes to sit down and solve the issue out of court.

“Snitches are people who go to the police. Artists going to the police haiwezi they should sit down talk and solve their issues. That is also my advice to Bahati. He should sit Peter Blessing down and talk. Police stations should be a last resort. The father of Felix Orinda popularly known as Dj Evolve has publicly thanked Embakasi East Member of Parliament.

Speaking to a local media house, John Orinda revealed that the Member of Parliament has spent over 800K on his son’s medical bill.

“I thank Babu Owino for taking my son to Nairobi Hospital. I think he would have died had he taken him to a medical facility that has limited equipment. So far, the MP has paid Ksh 800, 000 for Felix’s treatment,” he said

Orinda also revealed that his son has been having difficulty breathing and is unable to talk.

“He  has been having difficulty breathing for the last four days. Currently, he is unable to talk, His spinal cord was badly affected. On Tuesday, January 28, he was scheduled for a surgical operation, but the doctors said he wasn’t in good shape to undergo the exercise. The medical procedure was, then pushed to February 4.” He said

Babu Owino was released on a cash bail of Ksh. 10 Million.

Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi however gave Babu some relief by ordering him to pay the Ksh. 10 Million in four monthly installments.

This means that Babu will have to pay Ksh. 2.5 Million for the next four months to cover the bail terms

He however moved to court on January 30, to have the cash bail reduced. He argued that he was already committed to covering the medical bill, and according to him, the bail amount was too much.

Radio personality Mwalimu Rachel was on Friday arraigned at Kikuyu Law courts for assaulting upcoming artiste Peter Mbugua.

Rachel who was charged with robbery with violence was also accused of assaulting and robbing Martin Mbugua possessions worth KSh 103,000.

“Umeshitakiwa kuwa Tarehe Kumi na Saba January Mwaka huu, kule Kinoo, ukiwa pamoja na wanaume wawili ambao hawako eo mbele ya mahakama mliweza kunyang’anya Martin Mbugua, two silver chains ya dhamani ya shillingi Elfu Sitini na Tano, saa ya 35K, pamoja na pesa elfu tatu na mia sita Zote kea Pamoja ni shilling Sh103K. Last weekend, Martin Mbugua accused Rachel and two other men of assaulting him for three hours.

The upcoming singer narrated how the issue started after his friend Miracle baby who is managed by the radio personality failed to show up for a commercial shoot.

Mwalimu Rachel allegedly blamed Mbugua for delaying miracle baby for the shoot.

Gospel star Mr. Seed has been forced to respond after online users kept tagging him on posts involving Peter Blessing.

Peter Blessing has been on top of the trending topics after his former boss Bahati had him arraigned in court for allegedly stealing from him.

Bahati accused Peter Blessing of acquiring two million shilling from his record label under false pretence.

On Tuesday 28th, Peter Blessing was arraigned in court and was released on a cash 200k bail.

Following Blessing’s release, fans asked Mr. Seed to help the embattled star, however Mr. Seed says all he can do is pray for the 20 year old.

Mr. Seed also revealed that he has never met the young man from Taita Taveta.

“Eh naweza msaidia kwa prayers na maombi, yes man. Unajua kitufunny  ni sijawai meet huyu boy, mnashinda mkinitag tag lakini we don’t even know each other.” He said

Controversial singer Esther Akoth, popularly known as Akothee has revealed that she does not pamper orphaned children, and with good reason.

The singer took to social media to reveal that she has had her fair share of people who play the orphaned card to live on handouts.

Taking to social media, Akothee narrated how for one to live with her, they have to make sure they are ready to work their bottoms off.

“I have a big heart but a no-nonsense, i don’t pamper orphans, you can’t be singing you are an orphan at the age of 25, yet your mjulubeng is doing rounds, my friend. Does it mean if your parents were still alive you would still be depending on them?  If i take you as my child and you live with me, get ready to work your ass off just like i do, i don’t owe you success, no pity party corner in my home, i kick my kids’ ass too so you won’t be special!” She said

Akothee went on to reveal how she had to throw out two men from her house after they misused her household stuff and left her in debt.

“Late last year, i kicked out 2 grown men from my home! I have heard a few complaints that they were suffering in my homes! Who was suffering them yet i don’t even live in those homes. I am also suffering in the planes and hotels, running away from poverty! They could not even clean the instead, they threw them away, workers could not touch them they could not be told anything, they are msanii. I took them to driving schools, i haven’t seen the license until now. Bed sheets or towels they used. Come December, i and my children hardly had towels or bed sheets to use , i had to shop afresh.One of them was to shoot a music video, i asked him to go get clothes for the video from a friend of mine who sells cloths before we shot the video i fell ill and got admitted. He ended up using the cloths for his showbiz, and before i knew it, i was slapped with the bill before the video was shot and all the clothes already on shoshomedia. I arrived in my home and not even the poultry was attended too, most died and the farm was all bushy, which had food that i planted myself for them, so in peace.I released them with a lot of pain in my heart, gave them money and ask them to leave me in peace” she added

Nairobi reggae lovers got a rare opportunity to party with president Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at the UB40 concert held at Carnivore grounds on Saturday night.

The president who is a known UB40 fan, joined revelers in dancing after a hectic day  in Meru and Kirinyaga counties.

In a series of videos that have lit up social media, the president is seen singing along to every tune in the company of other revelers.

In one particular video the president lights up when the band begins to sing their signature tune dubbed ‘Red Red Wine’

The two leaders surprised concert goers at the venue to attend the legendary  reggae band’s s Real Labour of Love 40th-anniversary tour of Kenya.

ODM leader Raila Odinga also  danced the night away and at one point took to the stage to dance to the tune of the new BBI ‘anthem’ Nobody Can Stop Reggae made famous by the late Lucky Dube.

The UB 40 band known for hits such as Red Red Wine, was formed in 1978 by two brothers Ali and Robin Campbell before differences over managerial issues emerged between them, leading to a split in 2008.

Singer Esther Akoth aka Akothee  has left tongues wagging after sharing a video getting naughty with Tanzanian singer Ommy Dimpoz.

In the video doing rounds on social media, Akothee, dressed in a bikini, is seen twerking on Ommy’s shoulders before spinning around and capping his head between her legs.

Akothee was twerking to Dimpoz’s new song dubbed #Kataremix featuring Khaligraph Jones, Redsan and Nandy.

The video has elicited mixed reactions online, with many people calling out Akothee for going too far.
