Ohangla maestro Otieno Aloka has been forced to go into hiding after a public uproar following his Facebook live performance.

The ‘Kanungo e teko’ hit maker had made an attempt to market his latest song during the live session but it backfired terribly on him.

After his Saturday night performance, netizens joined hands in calling for the singer’s arrest mainly because of the vulgar lyrics which many said promotes paedophilia.

Aloka performed the song as two skimpily dressed dancers shook their bodies beside him.

In the song, he terms women as prostitutes then goes on to insult young girls who turn down sponsor advances. He even goes on to insult mothers using their privates.

Kisumu Women Representative Rosa Buyu was among those who accused the artiste of promoting immorality.

“I speak as a mother to condemn in no uncertain terms, the lyrics by Aloka, one of the country’s musicians. It is true that we must, as a country, nurture and promote talent among our youth to enhance self-empowerment and to also reduce the high level of unemployment among our young people,Demeaning women and using such vulgar language in a song that is open to a diverse audience in terms of age and sex is highly irresponsible! I will petition Mr Ezekiel Mutua to ensure that this song is pulled down and not given any opportunity in our airwaves!” she said

Following the uproar moral cop, Ezekiel Mutua also weighed in saying that the Kenya Film Classification Board has asked the DCI to arrest the singer.

“The Board is inundated with complaints about an obscene Ohangla video that’s promoting pedophilia and the degradation of women. We have alerted the DCI to arrest the singer and the producer. Thank you, Hon. Rosa Buyu for bringing this to our attention. We are working with Google to have the video brought down and will ensure that the artist faces the full force of the law for violating the provisions of the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 in respect to content creation regulations. The producer had not obtained a filming license either has the video been approved by the Board for public exhibition/consumption and age appropriateness. We shall deal with this kind of content creation violations and ensure that art is not used to destroy our culture and morality and that children are not prematurely exposed to adult content.” Mutua’s statement read in part

Aloka also issued an apology saying that the song was specifically requested by one of his clients in Germany.

“I ask for your forgiveness for what happened. The song was specifically requested by a client in Germany and I did not anticipate it will go viral. I especially want to apologize to all the women for all that. Please forgive me.” Aloka said
