
Hollywood actor Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have tested positive for Coronavirus.
The couple has been in Australia for the pre-production of Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Elvis Presley film.
In a statement on social media, Tom Hanks said they both started feeling under the weather and suspected it was a cold and it is then that they decided to test for Covid-19.
“Hey folks Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the coronavirus, and were found to be positive,” he wrote
He added that the medical team has taken over and that they are currently under quarantine.
“The medical officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks will be tested, observed and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires, Not much more to it than one-day at a time approach, no? We will keep the world posted and updated. Take care of yourselves!” Hanks tweeted
The 63 year old award winning actor is the highest profile Hollywood figure to be diagnosed with the Covid-19 virus, which has claimed over 4,200 lives and infected more than 117,330 people across 107 countries and territories.
On Wednesday, the World Health Organization declared the Covid-19 virus a pandemic.
