Rihanna took home the President’s Award at the just concluded NAACP Image Award (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) this weekend.

The honor, which is bestowed on an entertainer whose commitment to charity is unmoved, was courtesy of charities such as Clara Lionel Foundation, Raising Malawi and UNICEF which she supports.

The musician, business mogul and philanthropist received a standing ovation after her acceptance speech which emphasized on the unification of communities. Rihanna urged people of color to tell their friends of different races to “Pull Up”.

“If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that we can fix this world together… How many of us in this room have colleagues and partners and friends from other races, sexes, religions?… This is their problem too. So when we’re marching and protesting.. tell your friends to pull up.”

She also thanked the NAACP for celebrating the “strength and tenacity” of people of color who have been denied opportunities since the beginning of time.

Rihanna has previously been recognized as Havard’s Humanitarian of the Year in 2017 for her activism and advocacy for issues ranging from HIV/AIDS to affordable education.
