Legendary icon Bob Marley who died on 11th May 1981 would have marked his 75th birthday on 6th February 2020.

Last Friday Bob Marley’s children hosted a commemoration dinner in honor of his legacy.

At a celebration for Bob Marley’s 75th birth anniversary, the late icon’s children gathered to tell stories about the reggae king and discuss passing the musical torch to their own children.

Bob Marley’s children, including Cedella Marley, Julian Marley and Rohan Marley, and several of his grandchildren held a pre-Grammys brunch last Friday alongside Universal Music and Mastercard in Los Angeles

As a way to celebrate his legacy, the Marley family, UMe and Island Records have rolled out their yearlong commemorative plans  dubbed ‘MARLEY75’

The MARLEY75 celebrations will encompass all things music, fashion, art, photography, technology, sport and film, providing fans unprecedented access to archives from the legendary artist’s estate in new, thoughtful and innovative ways.

To mark the 40th anniversary of the timeless classic “Redemption Song” as well as the beginning of the Marley75 celebrations the family released the official video of Redemption song.

The official music video for “Redemption Song” premiered on Bob Marley’s YouTube channel on 5th February and already enjoys well over 60K views.

The video was created by French artists Octave Marsal & Theo De Gueltzl, and made with 2,747 original drawings in a sequence of breathtaking animation.

The video uses powerful symbols to amplify the magnitude of the song’s timeless lyrics and importance in today’s world. It also highlights Bob’s contribution to the empowerment of black civilization, as well as his manifestation of hope and recovery for all mankind.

Inspired by Bob’s homeland of Jamaica, as well as insights received from his family, the artistic approach was to illustrate the imaginary world of Bob Marley in a way that highly stimulates self-reflection.

“From the history of Slavery and Jamaica, Rastafarian culture, legacy of prophets (Haile Selassie the 1st, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X), as well as Bob’s personal life, the video takes the audience on a journey through allegories and representations.” Marsal and De Gueltzl said

Together with YouTube, new and exciting content is set to be released over the course of the year.

Bob Marley succumbed to cancer on May 11th 1981.
