
The All Africa Music Awards, (AFRIMA) went down this past weekend in Lagos Nigeria.
Kenyan artsites nominated for the glamorous annual awards under various categories managed to bring home some of the most coveted awards.
17 year old Nikita Kering won the Best female artiste in Eastern Africa with her song dubbed ‘Happy with you’ beating the likes of Vanessa Mdee (Tanzania), Queen Darleen (Tanzania), Nandy (Tanzania), Rosa Ree (Tanzania) Sheebah (Uganda), Maua Sama (Tanania) and Irene Namatovu of Uganda.
Kering also managed to bag an award for the Revelation of the African continent.
Khaligraph Jones clenched the Best male artiste in East Africa with his jam dubbed ‘Leave Me alone’ beating the likes of Boy Black (Nigeria), Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), Harmonize (Tanzania), Mbosso (Tanzania), Nyashinski (Kenya), Rayvanny (Tanzania) and Shyn (Madagascar)
Sauti Sol also walked home with the album of the year award for the Album ‘Afrikan Sauce’ beating fellow nominees African Giant by Burna Boy, Chulo Vibes by Timaya, Naked by Nadia Nakai, Omo Charlie Champagne by Simi, Poetic Trance by Aziz Sahmaoui, Umqhele by Sjava and Wilmer by Patoranking.
The band also bagged the best Band with their hit song Extravaganza featuring Sol Generation signees Nviiri the storytreller, Kaskazini, Crystal Asige and Bensoul.
Other winners were Nigerian star Burna Boy who bagged Artiste of the year award, Tiwa Savage under Best female artist in Western Africa, Joeboy for Best artiste in African pop and 2baba who bagged Best artist in African Contemporary.
