When you first spot him on the decks you may not believe that he is completely blind especially because he operates the normal decks.
James Sita or deejay Unique as he is popularly known, lost his eye sight at a young age, something he says resulted from him missing the measles vaccine at 9 months.
“My worst moment is when doctors had to remove my eyes because my eyeballs had already burst and would have resulted in a brain damage.” He says
Speaking to Maji Maji and King Kafu on True Ghetto story, DJ Unique says music has always been his passion and he has been lucky to have friends who have pushed him to follow his dream.
He was raised by his grandma at Nairobi’s Mukuru Kwa Reuben from the time he lost his mother as a child.
Dj Unique started deejaying mid this year after approaching Ghetto radio’s DJ Bling who enrolled him at his Bling It on Academy and ensured he got his training. Watch him on the turn tables and you’d think he has deejayed for years.
He says growing up in Kwa Reuben, all he ever wanted was to do unique stuff and also help his granma.
He charges ksh.10,000 for gigs but says his prices are negotiable.
Dj Unique says his best moment was being accepted at Bling it On academy and that he will forever be grateful for the teachers at the academy.
